Description

Woodside Ave project consisted of constructing a large box culvert to eliminate historical flooding of the Riverview area in Lakeside, CA. The Riverview area includes light commercial, offices, apartments, and a school zone. The box culvert was 2,600 linear feet in length x 5.5 linear feet height x 34 linear feet width. Placement of the box culvert required extensive shoring, traffic control, staging and box jacking under a freeway. Preceding the box culvert, major utilities were relocated, including overhead power and communications, sewer, and 4 water transmission mains. All these utilities required relocation to accommodate the box culvert which would cross over the main street. Installation of utilities included extensive shoring, traffic control, phasing, unforeseen soils conditions, and construction changes. Because the water mains were so large (36, 48, and 72 inch welded steel pipe), extensive tie-ins and 24-hour operations were required. Following completion of the underground infrastructure, most of the road was re-constructed and widened.
