After multiple extreme rain storms, the County of San Diego contracted TC Construction to perform an emergency slope repair and rock removal on the County Highway S22 between Borrego Springs and Ramona. A 500 foot long washout was keyed in and backfilled up to the roadway. Several areas of the pavement on S22 were damaged and required re-paving. With input from a geologist, five different rock slide locations were identified. A long reach excavator was then used to knock down large boulders in these areas. During the emergency repair work, S22 traffic had to be detoured or stopped over several days. Final best management practice items and hydro-seed were installed to provide future runoff protection.
